Muddy puddle or leaky ceiling?

What kind of problem am I dealing with?
This week I've been thinking about the stories we tell ourselves — about the people in our lives, the way we spend our time, the problems we face. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking:
“That narrative of elusive satisfaction isn’t just something we’re repeatedly being told; it is a story we’re literally buying into all the time.” How to stick with what you've got — an essay by Kurt Armstrong
We all have ideas in our heads about where our time goes, but until we actually sit down and assess the current reality, this is just a story we’re telling ourselves about our lives — it may or may not be true. Find out what's really going on with my updated Time and Energy Tracker
Is the problem you're currently working through a muddly puddle or a leaky ceiling? Another great illustration from Sketchplanations, inspired by a quote from James Clear
Extra thoughts…
This week's theme is prompted by my reflections on what has made this year in business so drastically different from my previous ones. I recently came up with a list of learnings about this, one for every £1,000 I've earned so far this year — it's shorter than you might think
I know I'm not alone in the current struggle and am working on a follow-up piece exploring some of the broader reasons, e.g. what might be going on culturally and economically around us. If you have a thought to share on this, please get in touch. I'd love to hear your perspective, or even quote you!
Kim
PS. In last week's newsletter — all about the chairs we sit in — I was delighted and surprised by the sheer volume of reaction to the Pipersong cross-legged chair. Who knew? Which is to say, YOU all delight and surprise me, and I look forward to hearing from you, no matter how small or silly the sentiment. Speaking of silly, this week's unthinking link lets you burst some virtual bubble wrap
If you know somebody who might get value from this newsletter, why not share with them? Forward this email to help them gain more clarity and confidence about what they're doing, too:
