Hold That Thought

What it means to be done

Stay focused, we're nearly there

This week I've been thinking about the expectations we set — for ourselves and others. Here are three things on that theme to turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  1. Taking an uncharitable read (and what it really says about us) — by me on Medium
  2. What would it mean to be "done" for the day? — by Oliver Burkeman in The Imperfectionist
  3. The glorification driving us to chase perfect conditions — by Sheril Mathews on Substack

Extra thoughts…

It took me a surprisingly long time to finish and publish the uncharitable read article. I think it was a combination of wanting it to be bigger than it really needed and struggling with the thorniness of the topic. Regardless, the responses many of you shared from my earlier newsletter about this really helped! For accountability, a directional steer, and helping me set realistic expectations, so thank you. And extra thanks for those of you that allowed me to quote you in it.

For today's underthinking link: I could paint a Jackson Pollack

Lastly, a question: What would it mean to be "done" for the year?

Be well,
Kim
