Hold That Thought

In theory, this should work…

…then we learn some stuff.

This week I've been thinking about how it starts vs. how it's going. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  1. When a bar is more (and less) than a bar — A tiny SipSin case study on my blog.
  2. “…planning out when and where you will perform a specific behavior turns your environment into a trigger for action. The time and place triggers your behavior, not your level of motivation.” — James Clear on how it starts
  3. “When you stop expecting the world to be sensible, suddenly it all makes sense.” — David from Raptitude with some reflections on how it's going

Extra thoughts…

For this week's unthinking link, why not chill out to some David Byrne radio?

Speaking of alcohol-free spaces (see SipSin), there's been a small buzz around on a recent article I wrote on my year of “sobriety”…and six months of drinking again

Do you have any thoughts to share about something that is turning out a bit different once you got into it? Or after you popped out the other side?

Kim

PS. I’ll admit, I was a little bit hesitant to hit send on last week's newsletter. There was no need to worry though, because I received so many wonderful emails! Each one means the world to me and continues to give me loads of productive energy. It also got me thinking…I should probably let others hear about Hold That Thought directly from you. If you’d like to share a few quick words about the value you get from what I do here, you can do so here

As always, you can visit the newsletter archive for all the worksheets and other free tools I offer. Or browse podcast episodes and the latest long-form insights. I also have a page where you can access every Medium article I've written, paywall-free

Hope you enjoy these things as much as I do creating and sharing them!
