Hold That Thought

The broken in-between

Hold That Thought…

This week I've been thinking about care and repair. Here are three things on that theme to turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  1. “The broken things in our lives are constantly charging interest.” — David at Raptitude has some thoughts on what to do about it
  2. American media theorist Douglas Rushkoff on how to become an agent of care when the world feels overwhelmingly broken
  3. I've been overthinking email scheduling for years. It's nice to know that I'm not alone. Here's Wes Kao on the Unspoken Power Dynamics of Calendly

For this week's underthinking link: man in the dark

Extra thoughts…

I've been a paid Calendly user for years. Until this week, when one of my book co-authors, Nathan Whitbread, tipped me off to TidyCal and their lifetime deal. It's great! I've set up a page, and even integrated the booking widget into my website

In other news, Mel and I received fantastic response from the announcement of our Leaving UX program. This has already prompted us to expand and change it in exciting ways. If you're thinking about leaving UX, register your interest now. The next big announcement is coming out tomorrow!

What are your thoughts about scheduling meetings? And what can you take a minute to fix, to make your experience just a little bit better?

Whatever it is, I know it will make a difference (even if only a small one).

Every bit counts,
Kim

Gentoo penguins are known for giving small gifts of smooth pebbles to show their appreciation for those they build nests with. It's called “pebbling”. Among humans, this can often look like forwarding emails (such as this one!), offering kind words, or leaving tips.

If you have been enjoying Hold That Thought and would like to share a pebble of appreciation, you can do so here:

As always, gems and other finds here:

Hope you enjoy these things as much as I do creating and sharing them!
