Hold That Thought

First. Slow down slowly.

Then wait.

This week I've been thinking about slow change. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  1. In his essay, How to get the best out of your downtime, Clinical psychologist Roger Bretherton answers the question, “What do we call someone who becomes more relaxed and embodied and connected?”
  2. “Describing the slowness of change is often confused with acceptance of the status quo. It’s really the opposite.” — Writer, historian, and activist Rebecca Solnit on how slow change can be radical change
  3. “Once you do things quietly you become selfish in the best way.” — Author Morgan Housel on the value of Quiet Compounding

Extra thoughts…

No new content from me this week, as I'm on holiday, slowing down in a remote part of Wales. It's taking some time, exactly as the first article linked above describes. Hence, this week's theme.

Would love to hear your thoughts on slow change. What's challenging for you about that? Conversely, what's quietly compounding in your life, without effort or perhaps even much notice?

Kim

PS. This week's unthinking link lets you control the weather
