Hold That Thought

Sawubona, we see you

Every Thursday I share three useful things to help you turn overthinking into expert thinking. Here are this week’s picks:

  1. A straightforward guide on how to stop overthinking, from Psyche
  2. A 3-word technique to interrupt your thinking and shift into action, from Scott Ste Marie (5-min YouTube)
  3. And reflections on meaningful connections:

Quick thoughts from me on the links above:

  • The windowpane exercise in the overthinking guide is the literal embodiment of shifting your attention away from your thoughts; very clever.
  • Scott explains the three-word method with many examples of common unhelpful thoughts, plus how the technique works, and also why it's so useful (see what I did there?). I also chuckled at the shout-out to an upcoming 2016, what an innocent time that was.
  • The difference between feeling seen and feeling heard is part of an ongoing conversation I've been having with many people over LinkedIn, Slack, Medium, and more. To join the dialogic, reply to this email and share your thoughts on what the difference is for you. Is there even one?

Was this useful?

PS. “Sawubona” is a Zulu greeting, meaning “we see you”. As Roche Mamabolo explains at TEDxMahikeng, it means so much more than that. I wanted to lead with this video, but decided to put it here because the ideas it contains truly encompass everything above. They are part of a much larger dialogic about humanity and our part in it. Go see and hear for yourself
