Hold That Thought

Non-sense and sense-ability. Hold That Thought

Published over 1 year ago • 1 min read

Every Thursday I share three useful things to help you turn overthinking into expert thinking. Here are this week’s picks:

1.

Avoid the meeting-after-the-meeting…what is withholding costing you?

Find out in a 3-minute video from the Conscious Leadership Group

2.

What did you get really, really, really excited about?

This and 39 other questions to reflect on every year

3.

Can you spot the difference between these new Natwest bank cards?

Past-me would have spiralled down a pit of unproductive thought and frustration over these poorly designed cards. Today-me turned that overthinking energy into a short-but-deep thought dive on designing for how we actually live our lives

You don't need to be a designer to get curious about the objects in your environment and how you might adapt or arrange things to suit you better. It's how to turn overthinking energy into expert thinking action. Or maybe you're wondering, what's even the difference?

As we head into the season of excess packaging, over-the-top marketing, and all manner of other non-sense, look out for examples that challenge or delight your sense-abilities.

What's a design that gave you pause recently? Poorly thought out or expertly executed, I'd love to hear about it!

Until next week,
Kim

When I share articles I've written on Medium, I use a 'friend link' so you can view it without using one of your 3 free monthly reads. I'm also aware that if I link to other people's articles on Medium, you may not be able to read them.

Why limit yourself?

If you join using my special link, you’ll get access to every article on Medium and your subscription fee supports me directly (and thousands of other writers, too). It's a nice way to give a small monthly tip to writers you benefit from reading.

Can't wait to read, write, and think together with you over there, too!

What's on your… My dog Terry had ear surgery Monday and I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled Friday, so this week I've been thinking about how we all get through a tough week. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: The #1 cause of burnout is not what you think. A 6-minute pep talk from Liz Wiseman at the Big Think No, they are not mad at you. And other comforting messages from anonymous dogs When you're too tired to figure out what you need, go to your...

Deciding how to get there Possible paths by panic_attack from Getty Images In previous weeks, we'd been exploring Vision and Mission. I'm back from a brief holiday in Malta, rested and ready to help you put all of this into practice. Which means that this week, I've been thinking about Strategy and Roadmap. Here are three things on those themes to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Putting it all together…all four of my worksheets — Vision › Mission › Strategy › Roadmap — in one...

Don't pin the butterfly Photo by serikbaib from Getty Images Last week we explored developing your Vision. This week I've been thinking about what it might take to create that. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Your Mission (statement), if you choose to accept it, is the work it takes to create your Vision. I've made another worksheet to help you with exactly that. Download your editable Mission Worksheet (PDF): Clarify and develop your...
