Hmm…Help, minute, momentum — Hold That Thought!

Published over 1 year ago • 1 min read

Every Thursday I share three useful things to help you turn your overthinking into expert thinking. Here are this week’s picks:

1

At the end of a hard day, when my brain is tired and seeks freedom from all obligations, flossing was just one more thing I didn’t want to do.

2

I find luck to be a tricky concept. Janis Ozolins gets the balance and order right in this tweet:

I love an acronym. I spent a large chunk of my studies in linguistics studying them. So, when I spot a clever one, part of my brain lights up.

Even better when someone spontaneously creates a great one!

This is what happened yesterday in a coaching session with creative entrepreneur Saskia de Feijter, who both invented a helpful way to slow down in the moment and offered to share her mini-creation with the world. Here it is:

When someone or something interrupts your flow, take a moment to pause and go HMM…

(actually make the hmm… sound. This is important!)

Then ask yourself the following questions:

  • Does this person need my Help right now?
  • Will it take a Minute (or longer)?
  • How might this impact my Momentum?

…also, when you make the Hmm sound, what's it like? Was it a curious Hmm? A skeptical one? Annoyed? That can tell you a lot!

Saskia's top Realised Strength is Action — she has a bias towards movement and is a doer of many things. HMM… helps her take a minute to decide if the interruption is going to derail her day or support further progress on her mission: to help people step away from fast fashion

How's your mission going?

Whether you're starting with why or you're working through bigger challenges along the way, I'd love to support you. Get in touch to chat about something you're working on, get unstuck, or simply want to share an acronym or phrase that's delighted your brain in some way.

Good luck! Veel succes!
Kim

What's on your… My dog Terry had ear surgery Monday and I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled Friday, so this week I've been thinking about how we all get through a tough week. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: The #1 cause of burnout is not what you think. A 6-minute pep talk from Liz Wiseman at the Big Think No, they are not mad at you. And other comforting messages from anonymous dogs When you're too tired to figure out what you need, go to your...

Deciding how to get there Possible paths by panic_attack from Getty Images In previous weeks, we'd been exploring Vision and Mission. I'm back from a brief holiday in Malta, rested and ready to help you put all of this into practice. Which means that this week, I've been thinking about Strategy and Roadmap. Here are three things on those themes to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Putting it all together…all four of my worksheets — Vision › Mission › Strategy › Roadmap — in one...

Don't pin the butterfly Photo by serikbaib from Getty Images Last week we explored developing your Vision. This week I've been thinking about what it might take to create that. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Your Mission (statement), if you choose to accept it, is the work it takes to create your Vision. I've made another worksheet to help you with exactly that. Download your editable Mission Worksheet (PDF): Clarify and develop your...
