Hold That Thought

Getting a good heart unstuck

Leadership is about so much less than changing the world.

Hello Reader,

This week I've been thinking about leadership and lollipop moments. Here are three things on that theme to turn overthinking into expert thinking:

  • "As long as we make leadership about changing the world, we give ourselves an excuse to not expect it, from ourselves and from each other.” — Drew Dudley on Leading with Lollipops (6 min YouTube)
  • “You start by realizing that nobody can clean up this mess single-handedly, which is fine, because we’ve got roughly 16 billion other hands at the ready. All any of us have to do is find some neglected corner and start scrubbing.” — Adam Mastroianni on how to get a good heart unstuck: Part I and Part II
  • In 2025, those hands were busy. 97 ways the world got better, from Reasons to be Cheerful

For this week's underthinking link, spend 90 seconds in the quiet place. Thinking score: 4 out of 10, but ymmv.

Extra Thoughts…

I might as well keep going with sharing from my folder of articles I want to keep in mind through the year: We Should All Be Luddites reminds us of how they literally raged against the machine and why we need to keep doing it.

Final thought: as Drew suggests in Leading with Lollipops, maybe the biggest impact you've ever had on anyone's life was a moment you don't even remember. Which may be true for the people who said or did something small that made a pivotal difference in your life. What if you let them know?

With love, lollipops and rage,
Kim
