Hold That Thought

Done in a second. Hold That Thought!

Published over 1 year ago • 2 min read

Every Thursday I share three useful things to help you turn overthinking into expert thinking. Here are this week’s picks — including an extra helping today, as it's Thanksgiving in the US.

1.

“What is something you used to do, that you thought was very important, that you stopped doing and didn’t notice a difference?

What would you add to these lists? Reply and let me know!

2.

CannedTXT is a fantastic resource for anyone who needs help with writing email responses. Great for cards too!

There, one less thing to think about.

3.

I've said it before and I'll keep saying it in bigger and better ways: You are not failing, you are successfully iterating.

And with that, here's my latest iteration of the Wheel of Life exercise, now a full-blown editable workbook of insight-igniting activities.

This is an exclusive offering for my newsletter subscribers (that's you!) — in future, this will be only available to clients when they start Strategic Expert Thinking™ with me.

Get the workbook now and you'll be taking a huge step toward your 2023 goals and creating the life you truly want

Download the workbook now!

Note: Some people will whiz through this workbook in a couple hours. Others may take months. Some will reject the structure and homework-like feel of a workbook entirely. All ok! Try things and learn what works for you. And feel free to share your thoughts, so that I can learn too.

“It's done in a second…and 34 years”

– Typography Designer Paula Scher on moments of insight and process vs. outcomes.

This reminded me a lot of coaching. Sure, there are hours that go into it, but clients have flashes of insight in a second. That second can happen at the beginning of a call, after 55 minutes of talking and exploring, or weeks later when doing something else entirely. That’s what you get and why it’s worth it

“There’s gonna be a moment, and it’s actually going to be a really short moment, in relation to all this other garbage you gotta do to get to the point that you get to make the stuff. But that’s the thing that I kinda live for. There’s this one moment where you figure it out and you get it and you think it’s going to be the best thing you ever did. And it’s really really exciting, and I never get over it, and it hasn’t changed in 34 years and as long as I can feel that, you can do it.”

Paula Scher

When's that moment for you? Reply and I'll share a thought or question to help you create more of them.

Wherever you are, I hope you have a warm, cozy and thankful day!

What's on your… My dog Terry had ear surgery Monday and I'm having a wisdom tooth pulled Friday, so this week I've been thinking about how we all get through a tough week. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: The #1 cause of burnout is not what you think. A 6-minute pep talk from Liz Wiseman at the Big Think No, they are not mad at you. And other comforting messages from anonymous dogs When you're too tired to figure out what you need, go to your...

Deciding how to get there Possible paths by panic_attack from Getty Images In previous weeks, we'd been exploring Vision and Mission. I'm back from a brief holiday in Malta, rested and ready to help you put all of this into practice. Which means that this week, I've been thinking about Strategy and Roadmap. Here are three things on those themes to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Putting it all together…all four of my worksheets — Vision › Mission › Strategy › Roadmap — in one...

Don't pin the butterfly Photo by serikbaib from Getty Images Last week we explored developing your Vision. This week I've been thinking about what it might take to create that. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking: 1. Your Mission (statement), if you choose to accept it, is the work it takes to create your Vision. I've made another worksheet to help you with exactly that. Download your editable Mission Worksheet (PDF): Clarify and develop your...
