Hold That Thought

Deeper than the dazzle

Hold That Thought

This week I've been thinking about the uncomfortable process of growth. Here are three things on that theme to turn mental energy into meaningful action:

  1. In his post on the hidden cost of comfort, Sahil Bloom asks: What growth are you starving with the struggle you’re avoiding?
  2. Everyone seems to be turning to AI coaches to help them think through challenges. In some ways, it works. But AI falls short in a few others, one of which makes all the difference
  3. “Admitting you’re wrong or updating your thinking isn’t weakness; it’s growth.” By Amanda Natividad in Nobody is Dying on Hills

For this week's underthinking link: Rolling Stone's Top 500 Album Picker. Thanks to Susi O'Neill for this great find!

Extra thoughts…

At the end of my article (above) on the false promise of AI, I ask a very confronting question. It's not that different from the one Sahil Bloom offers (also above). Or in The Prestige (or The Matrix, or any story of transformation, for that matter).

As we inch our way forward in the struggle to find answers, I am comforted by Amanda Natividad's reminder that every thing we put out there doesn’t have to be definitive. These aren't final statements, but just one more turn in a larger, ongoing conversation.

That's true for our answers as much as it is for the questions. And I'm here for the next one.

Let's keep going,
Kim

PS. Speaking of statements, next week I'm launching something very cool and exciting and FREE to help you with creating your Vision Statement. It's only for Hold That Thought subscribers, so if you know someone who might want help with crafting a vision they actually believe in, they need to sign up to the newsletter now:

If you have been enjoying Hold That Thought, here are two quick ways you might support me: share a thought or send me a pebble.

As always, you can find other content from me here:

Hope you enjoy these things as much as I do creating and sharing them!
