This week I've been thinking about categories. Here are three things on that theme to help turn overthinking into expert thinking:
Category design is a concept I’ve been learning more about lately, largely thanks to a Category Designer I met through Lunchclub. I’m halfway through the 2016 book Play Bigger by Al Ramadan, Dave Peterson, Christopher Lochhead, and Kevin Maney, all about how people solve problems and create opportunities. More insight from Play Bigger (via Blinkist)
Am I still the noun if I’m not doing the verb? – my thoughts on ego and the work
Extra thoughts…
Categories are closely related to labels — a topic which I’ve changed my mind about quite drastically this past year — and related to identities, too. I’ve written quite a bit about the latter already, for my PhD thesis and various otherplaces. The usefulness of labels is something I’ll be exploring in future editions of the newsletter; stick around.
What are your thoughts about labels and categories? Are they helpful and when do they stop being so?

For any task, project, or job, there are three ways you can go…
DIY – where you gather the stuff you need and do the work yourself
Do it with you – where you find a collaborator and do the work together
Do it for you – where you hire an expert to do the work for you
I've set up my own work so that I offer all three approaches…whether you want to work alone, together, or just sit back and see it get done, I can help. And if you're not sure what you want, or whether we might be a good fit, you should definitely pop on a call with me.
Even if we don't collaborate beyond our chat, you'll leave with a clearer idea about your next steps — that's what I can't help but doing. So, please get in touch! (Or send somebody who should my way.)
If you know somebody who might get value from this newsletter, why not share with them? Forward this email to help them gain more clarity and confidence about what they're doing, too:
