Hold That Thought

Break the Sunday night dread cycle

Every Thursday I share 3 useful things to turn overthinking into expert thinking. Here are this week’s picks:

1.

This used to be my weekly Sunday night / Monday morning pattern:

  • I would think about the work week ahead, which prompted a sense of impending doom
  • This prolonged and unexamined feeling of dread led to a low-level anxiety attack
  • Anxiety would result in nausea, which led to poor sleep
  • I'd wake up feeling terrible, unrested and unprepared to face work
  • This reinforced my belief that my fears were founded, leading me to worry all over again when next Sunday rolled around

Here's my 3-step method for facing the week ahead, or:

How I broke the Sunday night dread cycle

2.

Talking Points for Life is a library of ready-to-use messages for challenging social situations. Here’s one you can try from their page on How to set boundaries:

I feel [describe how you feel] when you [describe behavior]. What I want/need is [describe the behavior you expect going forward].

Example: I think it’s gross when you drink from my water bottle. Please only drink from your water bottle.

3.

myNoise creates beautiful noises to mask the sounds you don’t want to hear. It's delightfully organised and super customisable. For example, calm down in this Japanese garden with all the birds, none of the cicadas

I hope you have a great rest of your week!
